Why are sustainability challenges so difficult to solve?

Sustainability challenges rarely have a single cause or a simple solution. They arise within interconnected systems, where changing one thing can have effects somewhere else—sometimes in unexpected ways. In this interactive workshop, we'll make systems thinking approachable by exploring connections, feedback, unintended consequences, and leverage. You'll apply these concepts to a real-world sustainability challenge and practice looking beyond symptoms to better understand what may be driving them.

You'll leave with practical ways to see connections, ask better questions, anticipate consequences, and identify promising places for change.

Meet your Panelist

Konrad Schlarbaum is a sustainability professional with more than a decade of experience helping organizations turn sustainability goals into practical action. He currently serves as a Green Business Specialist with the Colorado Green Business Network, where he works with businesses and organizations to identify opportunities to reduce environmental impacts, improve operations, and advance sustainability initiatives. Konrad holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sustainability and is an ISSP Sustainability Excellence Professional, LEED Green Associate, and certified in permaculture design. He is passionate about making sustainability approachable, practical, and empowering for people at all stages of their sustainability journey.
