Leadership Capacities for Systems Change

An Introduction to the Inner Development Goals, a framework of 25 core transformational leadership skills necessary to address society’s most complex sustainability challenges.

Overview

What if the most important variable in your ability to lead systems change isn't your technical expertise, but how you show up as a leader? In this session, you’ll be introduced to the Inner Development Goals (IDG), a leadership framework grounded in research from 22,000+ academics and leaders across 194 countries, built on the principle that inner development and relational capacity are the foundation for effectively leading the human-side of outer change.

Participants will explore the five dimensions of the framework: BEING, THINKING, RELATING, COLLABORATING, and ACTING, and complete a personal assessment to map their own leadership development journey.

Outcomes

  1. Understand the Inner Development Goals framework and why inner capacity, not just technical skill, is foundational to leading systems change.
  2. Complete a personalized self-assessment mapping your current strengths and growth edges.
  3. Leave with a personal growth plan including one small, doable practice you can start immediately for developing your chosen skill(s).

Meet your Panelist

Lindsey Newkirk is a sustainability strategist, human potential facilitator, and founder of The Change Leadership Lab, a community learning laboratory helping sustainability and social impact change makers build their capacity to lead systems change through human-centered change leadership.

Long curious about what it actually takes to shift human behavior and systems at scale for sustainability impact, Lindsey started her career as an impact entrepreneur before earning a master's in Strategic Communication from the University of Oregon, with a focus on sustainable behavior change. This became the foundation for her systems change work in the corporate space, spanning in-house, consulting, coaching, and embedded partner roles with organizations including Dutch Bros Coffee, Adidas, Google Global Food, and MGM Resorts. Her work today is a synthesis of 20 years of experience and ongoing interdisciplinary research, as she supports leaders in moving from technical expertise toward becoming remarkable leaders who navigate the complexity of systems change with compassion, clarity, and confidence.
